A great metaphor

Happy Friday! I do not post often about infertility because as much as I can I don’t want it to completely consume my life (although some days it does—like anything) but I read this on a blog and thought I had to share. I really just wanted to share for those of you who may be going through the same thing. It’s very hard for people to understands unless they’ve been there.

Deciding to have a baby is like planning a trip to Australia. You've heard it's a wonderful place, you've read many guide-books and feel certain you're ready to go. Everyone you know has traveled there by plane. They say it can be a turbulent flight with occasional rough landings, but you can look forward to being pampered on the trip. So you go to the airport and ask the ticket agent for a ticket... to Australia. All around you, excited people are boarding planes for Australia. It seems there is no seat for you; you'll have to wait for the next flight. Impatient, but anticipating a wonderful trip, you wait --- and wait --- and wait. Flights to Australia continue to come and go. People say silly things like, "Relax. You'll get on a flight soon." Other people actually get on a plane and then cancel their trip, to which you cry, "It's no fair!"

After a long time the ticket agent tells you, "I'm sorry, we're not going to be able to get you on a plane to Australia. Perhaps you should think about going by boat." "By BOAT!" you say. "Going by boat will take a very long time and it costs a great deal of money. I really had my heart set on going by plane." So you go home and think about not going to Australia at all. You wonder if Australia will be as beautiful if you approach it by sea rather than air. But you have long dreamed of this wonderful place, and finally you decide to travel by boat. It is a long trip, many months over many rough seas. No one pampers you. You wonder if you will ever see Australia. Meanwhile, your friends and family have flown back and forth to Australia two or three more times, marveling about each trip.

Then one glorious day, the boat docks in Australia. It is more exquisite than you ever imagined, and the beauty is magnified by your long days at sea. You have made many wonderful friends during your voyage, and you find yourself comparing stories with others who also traveled by sea rather than by air. People continue to fly to Australia as often as they like, but you are able to travel only once, perhaps twice. Some say things like, "Oh, be glad you didn't fly. My flight was horrible; traveling by sea is so easy." You will always wonder what it would have been like to fly to Australia. Still, you know God blessed you with a special appreciation of Australia, and the beauty of Australia is not in the way you get there, but in the place itself.

It's National Infertility Awareness Week. No matter how we become parents, doesn't really matter. It's the end result of a child that does. I hope the story above helped you see it from another view.

Isn’t that profound? I haven’t made it to Australia yet, but I know however I get there will be worth the wait in the end.

Lindsey & Allan

I had the privilege of taking some engagement pictures a few weeks ago and I was pleased with how they turned out. Lindsey and Allan are getting married in Gulf Shores the first weekend in June! What an exciting time in the lives, glad I got to capture it!

Again, I’m no professional, but these two were fun to take shots of! :)

Wow, M.I.A….

So I’ve been MIA lately and I don’t have a good excuse other than I’m just busy, busy and see barely see myself coming and going. Let’s see what all has gone on since my Easter post….this will be super exciting.

The weekend of the 13th we went to the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day at the fire station. (Exciting Friday night I know…) but I look forward to this day all year and have for years….Kody now is the same way. :) We share a mean love for pancakes.

The next day we went to an auction and just rode around town for awhile. We went home and I took a 3 hour nap and he worked on his motorcycle. We had dinner at El Charro’s and called it a night somewhat early.

That Sunday after Sunday School we had a pizza party with our class. One couple who had a baby a month ago brought in pizzas and we all brought sides and just sat and enjoyed each other.

Last week was very busy at work and our person lives. I enjoyed lunch one day with Jamie and Jackie, two girls from church and Jamie’s baby Evie. She’s precious, like really, really, really pretty. Has the prettiest eyes! So I enjoyed chatting with them and just staring at her. :) Our Mayor has been not feeling well so I’ve been making trips out to his house to take paperwork and I did that a few days last week. Kody was gone for class Monday night and again Tuesday  night for a work meeting. He also was part of a focus group for our Healthy Church Initiative (HCI) process at church. If you’re interested in this read up on it. It was a weekend full of work and meetings and on Sunday after all church services we received our “prescriptions” which are 5 items we need to work on. We’ll have town hall meetings to discuss these and eventually vote to pass them or do away with them. It will be an interesting few weeks at FUMC-WP!

This week has been tiring. I had a late meeting Monday night and then yesterday traveled to Springfield the later part of the day for a doctor visit and a little retail therapy. I go back to Springfield next Wednesday-Friday. AHHH life. ;)

In the midst of all of this I took some engagement pictures. I don’t have them with me, but will load some soon. I actually am working on a blog to showcase some pictures. By NO means am I a professional, Kody and I just truly enjoy taking pictures. I’ve got my props ready to go when we meet Lily this weekend!

I will post some engagement pictures on another post!

Easter Sunday 2012

Easter was a beautiful day this year! We celebrated our Risen Savior at church with a full house, great music, and a great sermon about Mary Magdalene. We had Sunday School and a full class in there. Our Sunday School class continues to grow, I’m so proud of it! We’re studying the Methodist faith right now. It’s a book called Discovery, which is like a confirmation book for adults. It’s really interesting and since I wasn’t raised in a Methodist Church I am learning a lot of things.

My brother was home for Easter so I took this as an opportunity to get everyone’s picture made.

We had 2 Baptisms on Sunday, it was neat to witness those kids getting it done. After church we went home for a little bit and Kody started mowing the back yard and I continued my spring cleaning/organizing in the kitchen. I got the pantry done before lunch so I felt like an accomplished woman!

We had lunch at my grandparent’s house. My grandpa had rotator cuff surgery the week before but was getting around fine so we continued with lunch there. There are no little ones in our family anymore (my youngest cousin is finishing up his freshman year of COLLEGE) so there were no egg hunts. Hopefully soon we’ll have one again! Ha! We stuffed ourselves and everyone raved over my new strawberry cream pie recipe I found on Pinterest. It was delightful!!!

We headed home after a few hours and Kody went to continue mowing and I finished up organizing/cleaning out the kitchen cabinets and drawers. I’m starting on one end of the house and moving across. I’ve got 2 closets already done and tonight I think I will work on our spare bedroom. I’m very ADD when it comes to cleaning and like to start something and move on to the next. I’m proud of myself for hanging and finishing projects! ha!

All in all, Easter was a wonderful day spent with my family. We’re so lucky that the Lord sent his son to die on the cross for our sins! What a God we serve!

Our First Niece, Lily

Yesterday was a special day for the Thompson family! My sister-in-law Kaci had her baby girl, Lillian Jane Hubbard, who we’ll call Lily. We have 2 boys in the family, so this little girl is pretty special!! We’ve prayed for this sweet girl for a long time now.

She was born at 2:33 p.m. yesterday afternoon and weighed in at 6lbs. 13oz. and 20 inches long. Kaci did fabulously from what I hear and both Mom and baby are doing great. They will get to go home tomorrow afternoon, which also happens to be Kaci’s birthday! What a gift!! We hope to go see her in a couple of weeks. :) Until then, here are a few pictures we’ve received since her BIRTH day!

We love you Lily and can’t wait to meet you!
