As most of you know last week Kody and I were in Destin, FL with my family. We had a BLAST!!
We started our trip on Friday (8/5) and headed to Florence, AL to stay with my great aunt Barbara and her husband Steve. What a FUN time that was!! They have a beautiful home nestled in a neat neighborhood with a GREAT screened-in porch, and surrounded by woods. Alex took a friend, Tyler, so they were entertained the whole time with each other. We visited out on the porch for the majority of the night. Barbara went all out with snacks….literally I could have gained 10 lbs. there! We got up Saturday early and ate a good breakfast and then headed out around 10. We arrived in Destin around 5.
It was a long day, but groceries were needed so Mom and I headed to our favorite place, Publix! I could live in their produce section…SO NICE! I’m jealous of y’all who have a Publix nearby. Groceries surprisingly didn’t take that long and we were back at the condo for just sandwiches for dinner. It was pretty humid out so we thought a good dip in the pool would feel good on our tired bodies. The only problem was the pool was very warm! Luckily as the week progressed it actually cooled off.
Our condo was very nice! We had a great size pool and were just right across Old Hwy 98 from the beach. We had perfect access and could be there in seconds. We stayed very close to Pompano Joe’s, which was neat…you could always smell the yummy food!
Sunday Kody and I woke up and went for a jog. The humidity nearly killed me, but once I got back I was good to go. I changed and went on down to the beach early with Mom. We had chairs and an umbrella with our condo and we utilized those every day. I thought I did well with sunscreen, but I got pretty burnt either Sunday or Monday. My legs actually were on fire! I stayed in the shade the rest of the week and still got sun!
We stayed at the beach Sunday (and every day) until lunchtime and then headed up for lunch and swam in the pool for a bit. Most days a pretty good little storm would pop up about the time we were coming in for lunch, so that worked out well. It would cool things off too.
Sunday night we got ready and went to McGuire’s Irish Pub for dinner. They have great steaks and it’s my Dad’s favorite place. I had an excellent filet and Kody got some sausage and sauerkraut meal. Right up his alley…(gross.) After dinner we headed over to the Harbor to just walk around and see what they had to offer….here are some pictures from Sunday night.
Monday was my birthday! I got to turn 25 on the beach, what more could I ask for? (A new camera lens?) Kidding. Sort of. Anyways, I woke up and Kody had gone to this place called the Donut Hole that we’ve always wanted to try. He got the most massive donut they had, which was like an apple fritter, and then picked out an assortment. He went and got candles and my favorite candy. He obviously knows I enjoy food.
You can see that stuff here.
We went to the beach and then the pool and then Dad went and got Jordano’s for lunch….EXCELLENT pizza! My family with the exception of my Mom are pizza coinsures. We love it. And you can tell all we did was eat on this vacation, isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? After pizza we all napped around for awhile. It was the perfect afternoon. We got up and ready and then walked over to Pompano Joe’s for dinner. It was tasty! I had the grilled shrimp and Alex and Kody had crab legs and ate them all.
After we stuffed ourselves we went to the Destin Commons to walk around. Kody, myself, and the other 2 boys ended up in Brookstone for a really long time. I think I could live there. I love those massage chairs! We finally left. Kody was a trooper and went into every shop I wanted to go into. We had a really fun time. I only bought a Kennedy book! Imagine that?! When we got back to the condo I was exhausted so we were in bed by like 10:15! Great day and the perfect birthday! Part of my gift I opened was the new Vera Bradley purse, Eloise, in Happy Snails! I love it!
I will continue on later! Hope you’re all having a great day!
